Welcome to STARs, the Sustainable Travel and Road Safety Project. The activities outlined in this booklet are designed to raise children’s awareness of travel, its impact on the environment and how they can be responsible road users. It is designed to provoke thought and encourage children to ask questions and make informed decisions both now and in the future.
Children will achieve the following learning outcomes:
- Undertake enquiries, asking and answering a range of questions by collecting, presenting and interpreting information and drawing conclusions;
- Make and justify decisions
- Consider causes and consequences
- Engage in debate and discussion; listening to and considering other viewpoints and distinguishing between fact and opinion
- Consider their role in the world and the impact they have on it
- Communicate effectively; speaking and listening to a range of audiences giving opinions and offering justification for views based upon knowledge and evidence
- Write effectively for different purposes and different audiences
- Use ICT to enhance their learning
- Further develop empathy towards each other, their community and the environment both locally and further afield
- Make predictions, create hypotheses, carry out scientific investigations, make observations, record and analyse findings and draw conclusions from them
- Make generalisations based on evidence
- Engage in creative thinking to solve problems
